The growth of Test Prep Mom has truly been through word of mouth. I started teaching small groups of students in 2015 who, in turn, started making huge gains in their scores.
When those students returned to their local school districts, their guidance counselors wanted to know what happened. How had their ACT scores increased so dramatically?
The students’ responses? “Some lady in Lexington taught me all the questions on the test. Everybody calls her the ACT Mom.”
My cell phone started ringing. Superintendents, counselors, principals, and teachers called me, and they all asked the same awkward question first:
“I am so sorry to bother you,” they stammered, “but do people, by chance, call you the ACT Mom?”
I’ve never solicited business; I’ve never approached a school to come and teach. I decided early on NOT to hire additional teachers to grow my business simply because my story is so personal and my teaching style is borne out of years of studying the test. I didn’t know how to replicate that with additional teachers.
What I’d learned about the ACT had been such a gift to my family. I simply wanted to share that same gift with others. I didn't know it at the time, but I think honoring the integrity of the class, keeping class sizes small, and teaching every class myself has been the key to the consistent growth of my business.

After trying a different ACT prep class (twice!) I skeptically enrolled my daughter in The ACT Mom’s class. Not feeling prep programs were worth the investment, I sat in on Kati’s class to see what the magic was. What we learned? Kati knows this test, how it’s written, what it targets, and how it’s presented inside and out. As such, she imparted not only insight into content but also confidence and reassurance about the whole testing process. Our son participated in your class in July. He re-took the ACT in September and his composite score remained at 19. He admitted he didn't really study for it. I think when he started seriously looking at colleges it finally hit him how important it was to get those scores up just for admittance. He studied the notes from your class and spent time practicing for the October test.
